Seven consecutive projects, one engineer
Overflow energy-calculation and HVAC work was arriving faster than the in-house team could absorb, but not steadily enough to justify a full-time Florida engineering salary. We placed a bilingual mechanical engineer with Florida Building Code experience — EnergyGauge and COMcheck modelling, HVAC layouts in AutoCAD — working the firm’s hours and reporting to their project lead.
What did not go to plan. It was not continuous. Twice their own team had capacity and the work paused for weeks; at one point they built their own Revit template and the BIM scope disappeared. We don’t bill for a seat that isn’t working, so those months were quiet. The engineer was still there when volume returned.
